Police found PnB with various gunfire wounds and he was articulated dead in the emergency clinic 45 minutes after the fact.
No captures have yet been made over Monday's shooting.
Los Angeles Police Department Capt Kelly Muniz said a suspect moved toward a couple inside Roscoe's House of Chicken and Waffles and requested they hand over private things.
She told journalists at the scene this prompted "a verbal trade of some kind or another" before the casualty was shot a few times and tumbled to the floor.
The suspect then, at that point "eliminated things from the person in question", she said, before hurrying to a holding up potentially fast vehicle and running away from the area.
US media has said policing affirmed the rapper was the objective of the assault.
Recognitions have since overwhelmed in for PnB Rock - genuine name Rakim Hasheem Allen - who rose to acclaim with the arrival of his 2016 hit Selfish and had teamed up with specialists including Ed Sheeran.
Genius Drake posted a photograph of the pair together on his Instagram story, and rapper Offset posted a Twitter recognition encouraging supporters to petition God for PnB's two kids.
